Bruised Toes
Bruised toes from running, also known as runner's toe or jogger's toenail, are caused by the stress of your toenail repeatedly rubbing or hitting the front or side of your shoe.
This repetitive impact can cause bleeding under your toenail, which can look black or dark. The discolouration comes from blood leaking from broken blood vessels, which can form a pool of blood called a hematoma in the skin underneath the nail. If the hematoma is large enough, it can put pressure on the nail and separate it from the nail bed.
Other symptoms of runner's toe include a feeling of pressure, Tenderness, and Blood blisters.
To prevent runner's toe, you can try:
1. Monitoring your toe while running and stopping to replace your shoes if it's rubbing
2. Cutting your toenails
3. Being careful when selecting your footwear and lacing it correctly
4. Wearing moisture-wicking socks
